The Center for Molecular and Clinical Immunology

Overview

The Center for Molecular and Clinical Immunology conducts research on the molecular and physiological processes that underlie human health and disease. In partnership with universities and biomedical companies located in Taiwan and abroad, this research aims to bridge traditional medical practices and current scientific knowledge. The Center is devoted to making significant scientific advances in biomedical sciences and bringing the latest research findings into clinical applications.

The Center has established a broad collection of knockout mice that have been used to study the involvement of specific genes in the immunological response. Research performed at the Center is also based on the most advanced techniques and professional expertise in the fields of genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. In addition, a research platform has been established to study the inflammasome—a protein complex involved in the inflammatory response, as well as in a wide range of physiological functions.

Research Projects

The Center conducts multidisciplinary research on various aspects of immunology, physiology, microbiology, mycology, nanomaterials and bioengineering, including in the following research areas:

  • Impact of the inflammasome on health and disease.
  • Host-pathogen interactions and disease pathogenesis.
  • Role of the gut microbiota in obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
  • Effects of mineralo-organic nanoparticles on physiological processes.
  • Bacterial swarming and biofilm formation.
  • Immunological properties of medicinal mushrooms.
  • Disease prevention using natural health products.
